I spoke with a surgeon this week about her process in interviewing for a new job. She lamented about how this new position would make it harder for her to do drop off and pick up with her children. Which she highly values.
In exploring her thoughts about adding this into the negotiation process, she reported it had not occured to her to ask.
I empower you to reflect on and negotiate for what will help you feel most engaged in your work. Don't talk yourself out of such self-advocay.
In any relationship, you won't get what you don't ask for.
If asking for such consideration is received negatively, that let’s you know what type of environment you will be working in. And then you can really consider if that’s where you want to be.
It's invaluable to know where you stand.
