What are the limits of confidentiality?
In general, the law protects the confidentiality of communications between a therapy client and psychologist. No information is disclosed without prior written permission from the therapy client. Nevertheless, there are times when a therapist is mandated by law to report information, including:
- If any client intends to harm or kill themselves.
- The therapist will make every effort to work with the individual to ensure their safety. If the therapist believes the individual is still at risk, additional measures may need to be taken.
- Suspected child abuse or dependent adult or elder abuse. The therapist is required to report this to the appropriate authorities immediately.
- If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person. The therapist is required to notify the police/the potential victim.
Do you accept insurance?
To maintain the utmost confidentiality, insurance is not accepted.
- Should you choose to do so, you can request a superbill/itemized invoice which you can then submit to your insurance to request reimbursement (see Service Related Resources page).
- If you are interested in doing this, it is recommended you contact your insurance and ask about “out-of-network mental health benefits.”
- It is your decision to release such information to your insurer.
- Information you may need for your insurance to gather your out-of-network provider benefits:
- Session codes: 90791, 90834, 90837
- Individual psychotherapy via HIPAA compliant teleconferencing platform.
Where do I need to live to receive therapy services?
